Book 1 of Del Mar Days: Community Life and Civic Engagement in a Small American City by the author is now in print and can be purchased online at its website http://bit.ly/DelMarDays.

It is at once a social history, memoir and illustrated anthology of newspaper columns about life and politics in the City of Del Mar written during the sparkling years between 1980 and 1995.

Comprehensively indexed, it is first of three volumes that record daily community and political events in the 1.8-square-mile seacoast city of Del Mar, California.
Del Mar provides a home to some 4,300 residents, stunning natural vistas, the most beautiful racetrack and fairgrounds in the country, and a lagoon that is the gateway to the San Dieguito River, extending 70 miles to the east. The stories of the people, their dreams and the environment, reaching back into history, are drawn in newspaper columns from my experiences, in lively pictorial pages, and in selected excerpts in Book 3 from the city’s major land-use documents.
