What could be better entertainment on a warm summer evening in Del Mar than watching an outdoor movie with family and friends on the grass at Del Mar Shores Park? Please join us for Cinema by the Sea, three, free, one-night only showings of three Academy Award winning family friendly films this June, July and August sponsored by the Young Del Mar Committee of The Del Mar Foundation. While the movies may or may not be new to you, you haven’t seen them on a big screen at Shores Park before. All the movies are rated G or PG and all ages are invited to join in on the fun. Bring a blanket, chair, towel, pajamas and whatever else you need to be comfy and we will provide the free movies and popcorn.

The dates:

Sunday, June 12: The first of the series was the animated adventure comedy from Pixar Inside Out. As described by Bill Morris: “I would say that maybe 30 to 40 moviegoers were in the park when I arrived about 7:40. Karla Deerinck, Sandra Hoyle and Kristina Dommers were handing out popcorn while many patrons were playing in the park with an inflatable beach ball. Others were sitting getting comfortable in their chairs and more were still arriving. There was a beautiful sunset, followed by DMF VP Bob Gans thanking the crowd for coming to the inaugural event. Soon after the movie started, the second wave of patrons arrived. Paraphrasing Karla, “soon after the movie started, a family of seven, eight teens and six hotel guests from Indigo came with towels to sit on. I thought the event was a smashing success!”

Thursday, July 14: He’s back! E.T., the Extra Terrestrial, returns to earth from his home world for the evening at the Shores Park when he stars in the science fiction classic “E.T..” The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won four including Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects as well as winning a profusion of critical acclaim.

Sunday, August 14: The Cinema by the Sea finale is everybody’s favorite action-adventure film The Raiders of the Lost Arc. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won five including Best Art Direction, Best Sound, and Best Sounds Effects Editing as well as numerous additional awards and critical citations.
