I highly recommend you stop by Del Mar Community Connections and welcome their new Program Director Jo Morgenthal. This native New Yorker grew up in Greenwich Village and comes to DMCC with more than twelve years of experience in the not-for-profit world.
She received a bachelor’s degree in social work from Binghamton University and halted her graduate work in education when a position within the residential camping industry, intrigued her. Jo enjoys working with communities and bringing people together through educational, social, cultural, and fitness programs. Most of her professional life has been on the East coast, with a short stint at Camp Mountain Chai and the YMCA of Mission Valley a few years back. Her brief encounter with the Southern California lifestyle left an impact, and Jo recognized in time, she would return.
This purpose-driven individual brings vast experience to help implement her objectives: facilitating new programs and upholding a continued line of communication between DMCC’s Board of Directors and the Del Mar community. Jo will oversee all administrative aspects and work on the program launch of the Foxy Flyer. The Foxy Flyer is a new transportation van that can transport wheelchair bound individuals. Another important part of her job will be expanding the DMCC volunteer database.
I could tell instantly that Jo exhibits a high level of care, concern, and compassion for others. During our interview, I asked about the transition from working with children to seniors. “Each age group represents honesty and having nothing to prove, which is rather refreshing,” she explained.
Most of us strive to locate work that is rewarding and meaningful. Jo gives the impression that she has mastered this. When she is not in the DMCC offices, you may find her hiking or volunteering at animal rescue shelters. She would like to learn how to master the art of hanging ten on the surfboard. And will always find time for her furry friends, dog Suzy and cat Phoebe. You may even see Jo at Petco Park watching a baseball game. She will be the gutsy gal in the Yankee’s cap! “I am a crazy baseball fan!” she shared.
