Demolition of the existing building on the City Hall site is scheduled to begin in early June. To mark this occasion, a kick-off event is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th at 10:00am in the upper parking lot at 1050 Camino Del Mar. Coffee and donuts will be served.
On June 7 Del Mar City Hall will be reopened at its new temporary location at Southfair, 2010 Jimmy Durante Boulevard (north side of the building).
The new location for Council meetings, Design Review Board and Planning Commission, as well as most committee meetings will be in Suite 100 (the former Pilates studio).

The May 11th Parks and Recreation Committee received a report from Public Works Director, Eric Minicelli, regarding the restoration of the turf and the soil maintenance at the Shores Park. Three years ago the Shores turf received its first-ever application of organic soil amendment, but with some interrupted schedules of watering and soil amendments the turf has struggled to keep up. He advised the implementation of the recommendations of the Green Committee. The turf rehabilitation plan is to close the field at the beginning of the Winston School’s summer recess. Over a period of several weeks the field will be aerated and top-dressed with a humus rich organic soil amendment that is cultivated at San Pasqual Valley Soils and derived from the neighboring Dutch Dairy cows. This product contains no biosolids, and it is odor-free. The park’s field may additionally receive a grass seeding and its ongoing maintenance will include two to three top-dressings per year. This new turf management program for all three parks will pursue the goals of building living soils without synthetic materials.
On May 16th City Council voted 4 (Corti, Mosier, Parks, Worden) to 1(Sinnott) to prohibit single-use plastic carry-out bags from retail establishments effective December 14, 2016 and from restaurants, food vendors, farmer’s market and catering trucks on June 15, 2017. Once in effect retail establishments may rebate or reimburse a customer for the use of a reusable bag. Likewise the retail establishment shall collect a “bag cost pass-through’ of at least $0.10 each from the customer for each recyclable paper bag or reusable bag. Educational outreach activities to prepare consumers to use reusable bags will start in November.
The draft Climate Action Plan(CAP) will be presented to the City Council at its June 6th meeting. Del Mar’s CAP has set a target goal of 100% renewable energy sources by the year 2035 as has the City of San Diego. Achieving this goal is most likely with a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) authorized by Assembly Bill 117 that allows cities, counties and other authorized entities to aggregate electricity demand in order to purchase alternative energy supplies for residents and businesses. The existing electricity provider (SDG&E) continues to transmit and distribute services. Council Members Mosier and Worden are participating with a coastal city working group to explore the feasibility of a Joint Powers Authority to amalgamate the minimum requirement of 60,000 customers necessary to form a CCA.
Southern California Edison is onsite and has begun replacement of its natural gas main beneath the roadway. Highway 101 is expected to reopen in June.

Opponents of the Watermark housing proposal have gathered more than 500 signatures to require a public vote instead of a City Council vote on this and other projects. If the signatures are verified by the Registrar of Voter and the content is deemed legal, the proposition will be placed on the November ballot.
