April is the month known for Earth Day, Beach Clean-ups and conservation.  To help celebrate the ideals of conservation awareness the Del Mar Television Foundation decided to air its shows relating to the conservation of the resources of our planet Earth.

First we have “Save It For Me.” An award winning show produced by Tracy Phillips and shot by videographer Jeff Stone, it highlights 3 local Del Mar school children and their families’ efforts to reduce their footprint on our planet. Each family decides on a different direction that will work for their family in hopes of making a difference. Save It For Me was executive produced by long time resident Ingrid Hoffmeister. The Save It For Me airdates are: Wednesdays at 5:30pm and Thursdays at 11:30 am.

The drought that is affecting the whole state makes the next video of particular importance. “Being Waterwise” shows us ways of conserving water using three different techniques, including water systems and monitoring, different soil use and planting drought tolerant plants. Del Mar’s Ad Hoc Water Conservation Citizens’ Advisory Committee and the Del Mar Television Foundation joined efforts to bring this workshop to the community, which is very relevant to our drought-ravaged state. This workshop will air Saturday April 20th and 27th at 8pm.
The third interesting video is entitled “Ice Detectives.” Del Mar Community Producer Larry Jones interviews special guest Dr. Jeffrey Severinghaus of Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Dr. Severinghaus explains his research on ice cores as archives of gasses in the atmosphere and how it relates to the changes in ocean chemistry and climate change. “Ice Detectives” airs Fridays at 4:30 pm and Mondays at 9:30 am.
