Del Mar resident Richard Anglin, as CEO of telmedx, a San Diego based telemedicine company, is helping to re-invent, and improve upon, the old-fashioned house call.

Selected as one of the top three Most Promising Companies of 2013 at the Personalized Medicine World Conference in Mountain View, Ca, telmedx has developed an application for connecting doctors on a web browser to the cell phone or tablet camera of patients. This allows multiple doctors in multiple locations to access the same live cell video and audio and to examine patients by remotely capturing high-resolution images from the video. Clinicians can engage in triage, remote diagnosis, follow-up care, drug and protocol compliance, and health status monitoring, all without the patient having to visit a brick-and mortar medical facility.

With the goal of delivering better medical care at lower cost through earlier care delivered where and when a patient needs it, the application is being used locally by the UC San Diego Health System in clinical trials and by the San Diego Padres for injury assessment between the athletic trainers and Scripps physicians.
When asked why he chose to live in Del Mar, Richard said he and his wife moved to Del Mar “because we wanted a village lifestyle-- to be able to walk into town on the weekends, or walk to the beach, or just to look at the ocean.” “When our son was born,” he added, “the village lifestyle was even better --the kiddy park, Dog Beach with the new puppy, and learning to ride a bike on a quiet street.”

Richard was also the founding CEO of two satellite telecommunications companies, Omninet Corporation and Digital Satellite Broadcasting, and has led the creation and deployment of wireless systems for forty years. He holds several issued patents, and has a BSCE from Case Institute of Technology, a MRP from Cornell University, and a JD from Loyola Law School.

telmedx is located in Janssen Labs, the life sciences incubator operated by Janssen Research and Development, the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson & Johnson. For more info, go to www.telmedx.com.
