Grilling Paseo

Sherri Lightner, San Diego City Council President Pro Tem and Councilmember for District One that includes Del Mar Heights and Terrace, has asked Kilroy Realty to make a presentation on the proposed One Paseo Project before the Torrey Pines Community Planning Board. The request was made after the developers refused similar requests from the Board’s Chair Dennis Ridz.

San Diego Community Planning Boards provide input to the San Diego Planning Commission and Council on pending development in their communities. Kilroy has made presentations on One Paseo to the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board only, based on the proposed Project location at the corner of El Camino Real and Del Mar Heights Road just east of I-5 within that Planning Board’s jurisdiction.

According to Ridz, a regional Project three times the size allowed by San Diego zoning would clearly impact the nearby Del Mar Heights and Terrace communities in Lightner’s District. “I have bent over backwards” to make accommodations for a meeting with our Board, Ridz said. “One concern is the negative impact on emergency medical response times coming west from Fire Station 24 just east of the proposed development.”

Because of opposition to the project’s size, a revised Draft Environmental Impact Report reportedly with a smaller project alternative will be recirculated with a 60-day response period. The revised DEIR is expected to be released “soon,” and there have been requests to delay the release until January 2014.
