The Del Mar Historical Society (DMHS) has decided to reconstitute itself as a separate organization instead of being the History Committee of the Del Mar Village Association (DMVA). A spokesperson for DMVA agrees that ownership of all books, historic photographs, and monies will be transferred to DMHS. Details of this transaction are being negotiated by both parties, with an expectation that the final agreement will be consummated by March. The DMVA History Committee will also continue to exist and to provide displays and events.

When the DMHS, founded in 1985 by Swede Throneson, entered the merger with DMVA in July 2010, it brought a 25 year collection of books and historical photographs. At that time DMHS was the only organization in Del Mar with a purely history-oriented purpose. When DMHS exits the merger with DMVA with the collection of books and historical photographs, it should once again be the only organization in Del Mar with a purely history-oriented purpose.
