Affordable Del Mar
Bud Emerson | Klish Way

Del Mar’s draft housing element has been sent for state review after public input and review by the City Council, the Planning Commission, the Housing Corporation, and a citizen advisory committee. This update is mandated by state law and implements Del Mar’s Community Plan provision “Preserve existing and insure adequate housing for diverse age and socio-economic groups within the community.”

The draft proposes many different measures to achieve our mandated goal of 71 new units between 2013 and 2020, of which 21 must be affordable. “Affordable” incomes are in the $45-65k range which could mean teachers, public employees, business employees, seniors, students, relatives. The units will be spread around so they will not affect the existing character of the community.
When the state finishes its review of the draft, the city will prepare a final update of the plan with many opportunities for public input.
