The North Torrey Pines Bridge Retrofit project is at the halfway point and is on budget and on schedule. The project started in December 2010 with mobilization of the construction company and crew. Grouting and ground stabilization was completed in Spring 2011 and a temporary structure adjacent to the eastside of the bridge was completed in Summer 2011.

Most recently, the Westside of the bridge and a temporary structure adjacent to the Westside was completed. Now reconstruction of the eastside of the bridge will begin with a scheduled completion of Summer 2013. Then the railings will be built on both the eastside and Westside, the new gas line will be constructed and the bridge should be fully open in January 2014.

The project has gone pretty much without a hitch. The ground was a little looser than thought but this did not impact the schedule. The engineering of the project has been exceptional as there have been a minimum of change orders. There have been some noise complaints so the contractor has put up more plywood sound barriers and set up decibel meters at private homes to monitor the sound.
There will continue to be times when the bridge is closed to all traffic during the night time between now and November 2013. The construction company and the City of Del Mar Public Works Department appreciate all of the patience from the citizens of Del Mar.
