Del Marians were recently invited to attend a series of forums to discuss the formation of an arts council for San Diego County. This session and additional ones will be held in the near future to allow everyone to be part of a growing collaboration between civic leaders, directors of various arts councils, art organizations, artists and individuals passionate about the health or the arts in their community.
The first meeting was held on Thursday, May 24th in the Del Mar Powerhouse. Presentations were made by members of Art Pulse, a non-profit service organization under the direction of April Game, Executive Director and Drew Cady, Deputy Director.
The next forum is scheduled for Thursday, June 28th, 6-8:00 pm at the Lyceum Theatre in Downtown San Diego at the Horton Plaza. The forums are free to the public.
Some of the proposals under discussion include: the creation of an extraordinary art center to be built on the site of the former Encinitas Pacific View Elementary school. The Center will include studios for painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, and rehearsal and performance space. In addition, space will be provided for theatre, dance and music, as well as a roof top café and gardens.
The award winning firm Hubbell and Hubbell, Architects, has been retained to bring a distinctive style to facility.
Additional information will be presented in future issues of the Del Mar Sandpiper and at the June 28th forum.
