Nine-members appointed by the Governor oversee the 22nd Agricultural Association. Each serves a four-year term and meet on the second Tuesday of every month except July.

Michael Alpert, Democrat, retired attorney and husband of former state Senator Dede Alpert of San Diego, appointed by Schwarzenegger in 2005. Alpert served as chair of the state’s Little Hoover Commission.

Ruben Barrales, appointed by Schwarzenegger 07 to complete term of Brent Wilkes, is President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. Five years at the White House as a deputy assistant to President George W. Bush. Son of Mexican immigrants is also closely involved with the Chamber’s Mexico Business Center agency. Lives in Del Mar Heights. Reappointed 2008.

Kelly Burt, CEO/chair of Price Self Storage and on the boards of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Rancho Bernardo Community Bank. Appointed 2005 by Schwarzenegger.

Adam Day, appointed 2008 is Executive for the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation near El Cajon. Youngest son of former SDSU President Thomas Day; Republican, past chair of SD County Planning Commission and Board member of Downtown San Diego Partnership.

Ann Davies, wife of Schwarzenegger’s judicial adviser attorney John Davies. Sits on the state Race Track Leasing Commission. Appointed 2006.

Kim Fletcher, appointed by Schwarzenegger in 07, is president of Investors Leasing Corporation and past chair of United Way, Home Federal Bank and is on the Foundation Board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. Fletcher’s grandfather credited with first subdividing the city of Del Mar and the Fletcher family is well known in Del Mar. Lives in Rancho Santa Fe.

Vivian Hardage, a community activist who helped start a San Diego Republican women’s club and the Vision of Children Foundation that fights hereditary blindness. Hardage and her husband, developer San Hardage, live in Rancho Santa Fe. Reappointed to second term, 2007.

Barry Nussbaum, BNC Real Estate based in Dallas Texas and chairman of the Board, Surge Energy based in Solana Beach, an oil and gas drilling company. Also Co-founder and former board member of several companies including Digital Orchid, a wireless technology company which sells products in 22 countries. Nussbaum, appointed by Davis, is in his tenth year on the Fair Board. Lives in Rancho Santa Fe.

Russ Penniman, Captain in the Naval Reserves, Managing Partner of Penniman & Associates, LLC, a real estate venture and management company and President and CFO of Earth &Materials Sciences Group. Also vice-President of the Joan Irvine Smith & Athalie R. Clarke Foundation. Appointed by Davis 2003, Reappointed by Schwarzenegger 06.

Burt, Penniman and Davies sit on Race Track Leasing Commission, which is composed of members of the 22nd Ag. District and state officials in Sacramento.
